Saturday, July 17, 2010 - Divorce is everywhere, with 43% of all marriages ending in them. A staggering fifty-three million people have been divorced at least once. Not surprisingly, high stakes divorces and divorce in the circles of high society have their own special brand of irreconcilable differences. Ed Winer and Gerald Nissenbaum, named two of the nation’s top lawyers by Town & Country and Worth, hold keen insight into the causes of divorce. They believe that three elements - Sex, Love and Money - either hold a marriage together or ultimately tear it apart. Ed and Jerry will share some of their best stories - from gut-wrenching and tragic to outrageous and humorous - about the practice of family law and what not to do when a marriage fails. As a relatively recent addition to the bench, Judge Klein will also offer insight into how life wearing the silk robes of a judge differs from being a lawyer in private practice. Saturday, May 15, 2010- On March 16 2010, the FCC issued "Connecting America: The National Broadband Plan (NBP)" This plan lays out the FCC's vision for the future of broadband in the United States and the proposed procedures by which it hopes to achieve that vision. Soon after the NBP was issued, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia issued a decision, Comcast Corporation, Petitioner v. Federal Communications Commission, that calls into question some of the FCC's authority to implement portions of its NBP. Brian will discuss how the FCC's new plan can be implemented and what hurdles lie ahead in light of this recent decision, and he will provide an overview of the NBP and share information and insights on both the NBP and the recent Comcast decision.
